Abstract
In its simplest form, the monolateral fixator can be used to stabilize the skeleton following the acute correction of a diaphyseal deformity. This will often be encountered in the form of a uniplanar or multiplanar deformity in the lower limb. The type of procedures which will be described can be effected with minimal interference to the soft tissues and healing can be accelerated by weightbearing and dynamization.
