Abstract
Fractures of the hand skeleton are common (Barton 1979;1 Barton 1984; 2 James 1962). 3 While immobilization for a certain period is necessary, early movement is required to avoid joint stiffness and impairment of tendon gliding. Stable fractures should be mobilized early, whereas unstable fractures may require prolonged stabilization to avoid redislocation or malunion (Swanson 19704; Barton 19791; Buck-Gramcko et al 1986; 5 Bowen et al 1989). 6
