Abstract
Congenital uterine anomalies are a range of morphological abnormalities of the uterus, which form as a result of aberrant development of the Müllerian ducts at around 8 weeks’ gestation.1 They are associated with a wide range of pregnancy problems, including miscarriage, pre-term delivery, ante-partum bleeding and intrauterine growth restriction.2 However, our knowledge of congenital uterine anomalies has been limited because of their apparent rarity and the invasive nature of diagnostic tests, which have traditionally been used to assess uterine morphology. Screening for congenital uterine anomalies has therefore been limited to women with poor reproductive histories, such as recurrent first-trimester miscarriage. The prevalence of anomalies in the general population of women, with normal reproductive histories, and their clinical significance have remained largely unknown.
