Abstract
A representation is a convention about how to describe things, like a language. A representation makes some aspects of the entity it describes explicit and leaves others implicit. For example, Vision: gray scale array makes brightness explicit, primal sketch makes brightness changes explicit, 21/2 D sketch makes surfaces explicit, 3D models makes objects explicit (Marr, 1982).
