Abstract
Visual J++ is a powerful IDE, but when you first start using it the complexity of the environment itself can cause you as many problems as the application or applet that you are writing. When you start a new Java project there is a sequence of operations that you will have to go through every time. This may vary slightly if you are using existing files rather than creating your own from scratch. In this chapter we are first going to look at the differences between applications and applets, next we are going to create both an application and an applet, so that later when you are learning some of the more difficult ideas of Java you will not have to worry so much about how to use the environment.
