Abstract
This paper provides a short overview of some of the current issues associated with optical transport network (OTN) or optical layer management. An overview of optical transport network functions is provided followed by a comparison and discussion of the different performance, fault and configuration management techniques applicable to the opt~cal layer, including protection.
