Abstract
Starting from this chapter, we discuss stochastic service guarantees. Our approach is based on the stochastic traffic characterization in [31]. Such a traffic characterization can be viewed as a stochastic extension of Cruz’s (σ, ρ)-characterization in Chapter 1. There is also a calculus for the stochastic traffic characterization. However, as we shall see later, the key difference between the deterministic traffic characterization and the stochastic traffic characterization is the notion of independence.
