Abstract
Force, stress, strain, torque and acceleration are all closely related to each other. With few exceptions, instrumentation of all these quantities is carried out through strain measurement. Further, such strain instrumentation is almost universally done using resistance Strain Gauges (SG). Resistance SG and allied instrumentation is the main topic of this chapter [Doebelin, Hix and Alley]. Instrumentation of force and allied variables, are also discussed. Strictly speaking, pressure too comes within our purview here. However, pressure instrumentation along with that of flow — due to their importance in industry — is dealt with separately in a later chapter.
