Computer Algebra Systems

  • Chapter
SymbolicC++

Abstract

In this chapter we survey some computer algebra systems and give some applications. There are a large number of computer algebra systems available, so we will concentrate on a few of them. Reduce and Axiom are based on Lisp. On the other hand Mathematica, Maple and MuPAD are based on C. Besides symbolic manipulations, all systems can also do numerical manipulations. The systems are not only an interactive environment operating in response to on-line commands, but all of them are also programming languages.
