Abstract
The debate on human-centred systems in business cannot be considered in isolation from international political and economic development. The challenge to Taylorism has been, in part, a critique of Western capitalism, which has seen its own place in the world changing. The rival political and economic system of communism has collapsed since 1989, and former Warsaw Pact member countries have been seeking to switch to capitalism, exposing weaknesses in the economic theory which have been hidden through the political and cultural strengths of successful countries.
