Using ColdFusion Variables

  • Matthew Norman
Part of the Essential Series book series (ES)

Variables are an integral part of most programs, as they provide a place to store any data or information gleaned from the user to use to customize their experience. For instance, we could define a variable called name, and put the user’s name in it. Then, throughout the course of the user’s visit we can use that variable to make the name appear on every screen they visit. Once the user has finished we write the contents of the variable name to a database, which stores their name for future reference. The next time they arrive their name is retrieved and the user will be pleased to find his pages are personalized with his name.
