Working with Imported Bitmaps
Flash works with vectors to describe objects primarily to minimize the file size, for the necessary benefit of faster downloads and playback of movies. Working with vectors is fine, until there is a need to either generate or edit a bitmapped image. This could be in the form of a photograph that has been scanned, or we may have a library of bitmapped images that have been created using another graphical package. We would then want to include some of these images in our movie. The Flash environment allows for the usage of external images as bitmaps or for the conversion of these into vectors. When working with bitmaps, the size is controlled through a set of compression options that allow for optimized images.
