Abstract

The control of robots over the Internet requires coordination of control commands to the remote device and visual feedback to the remote user. We describe a framework to support collaborative interactive control of small Internet-based robots exploiting a number of interaction metaphors. The framework addresses the concerns of synchronization of the user’s representation of the environment and the remote environment, and provides for dynamic event management through a number of software agents. A multi-modal VRML-based architecture is described which provides remote users with an improved sense of telepresence over purely video-based solutions.
