This chapter introduces forms. Forms are used in an HTML document to accept data from the “outside world”. Forms allow users to enter data into a Web page. The original purpose of the HTML form mechanism was to transmit the data back to the server to be processed by a CGI application. PHP is able to process form data easily and it is a means by which the user can interact with the PHP application.
