Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to provide an in-depth understanding of the relationship between processing conditions of a fusion bonding process and the mechanical properties of the final joint. To establish such a relationship, it is necessary to evaluate the microstructure and the failure mechanisms. The processing conditions dictate the microstructure of the welding area, which is related to the consolidation quality. Generally, specific consolidation states correspond to specific failure mechanisms which define the amount of energy dissipated in the fracture process and the mechanical performance of the joint, quantified using LSS. Additionally, this procedure allows the verification of the simulated results obtained in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 for the resistance welding process.
