Abstract
The Nueva Renca thermal power plant is the first combined cycle plant in Chile that generates electricity from natural gas at high efficiency, low cost and with minimal environmental impact (Gener, 2000). With a net power of 370 MW, the steam turbine generates 170 MW and the gas turbine generates 200 MW. The plant is located in Santiago, on land formerly used for storing coal for the old Renca Power Plant, owned by Gener.
