Abstract
In this chapter we shall consider how interactions between small numbers of species affect the population dynamics of those species. As in Chapter 1, we shall choose as variables the sizes of the populations in some sense, e.g. the numbers of individuals in each species, the biomass of the populations, the mass of an essential element incorporated into the population, or the fraction of the total habitat that the population occupies. We shall neglect the age or other structure of the populations.
