Drug Discovery Pipeline Overview

  • Edward D. Zanders

The highly complex process of discovering and developing new medicines requires the application of many different skill sets over a time frame of years. The whole process is best visualised as a pipeline, with an input at one end and an exit at the other. This short chapter provides a brief overview of the drug development pipeline, enabling the reader to get a “helicopter view” before obtaining more detailed information in subsequent chapters.
