Abstract

In conventional analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), the input voltage signal is sampled and quantized in the voltage domain using an analog processing chain. Voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO)-based ADCs differ from traditional ADCs since the analog input voltage is first converted to timing information, via the VCO, and then quantized in time, see Fig. 1.1. The voltage to time conversion occurs since the VCO frequency is proportional to the input voltage, Fig. 1.2.
