Abstract
Bilinear pairings on elliptic curve groups have been extensively used for the construction of identity-based encryption schemes and related primitives. This, however, does not give the complete picture about IBE schemes. When Shamir [155] had proposed the idea in 1984, he had been unable to give a solution to the problem. In the public domain, the problem remained open for about 17 years till the publication of the Boneh-Franklin IBE scheme in 2001.
