Abstract
This chapter briefly presents some types of block designs that are different from the designs discussed before, but are useful in practice as well as in the general theory of block designs. The designs discussed here are variance-balanced designs (Section 10.1), resistant/robust designs (Section 10.2), nonbinary designs (Section 10.3) and disconnected designs (Section 10.4). They are not described in a uniform way. Nevertheless, several concepts and methods introduced and discussed earlier, particularly in Volume I, are applied in various sections of this chapter. A different concept of balance is explored in Section 10.1.
