Abstract
Frequently, for understanding complicated things, there is nothing better than re-reading classical authors. So, we are deeply convinced that the thoughts on the relationship between asymptotic and convergent series presented by H. Poincaré in the first volume of “New methods of celestial mechanics” should be included in all textbooks devoted to asymptotic analysis. This has much to do with searching for the motivations of the various concepts which are necessary for real penetration into the essence of a subject.
There is always a certain charm in tracing the evolution
of theories in the original papers; often such study offers
deeper insights in to the subject matter than the systematic
presentati on of the final result , polished by th e words of
many contemporaries.
