Abstract

Masking in the actual sense means the temporary, cleavable blocking of a photographically useful group (PUG). Thus the PUG is temporarily inactivated and later on released at the proper moment. (Masking couplers are not included in this definition.) Similarly unstable compounds already occurred among sulfurcontaining stabilizers (Sections 5.2.5 and 5.3.2).
