Summary

If the dynamic, the concrete and the whole stand at the heart of our sign system, our mind and our unique form of being-in-the-world, how is it that our universe is conceived as reified and fragmented? A possible answer is that we have undergone a form of cultural evolution that transformed us from a concrete, holistic and operational form of existence to an abstract form of existence. This idea of cultural evolution is examined in the current chapter.
