Particular Reference to Melanomas Involving Intermittently Sun-Exposed Skin The following discussion applies to cutaneous melanoma viewed as a single disease entity, although we realize that there are some melanomas occurring at particular sites that have rather distinctive features suggesting causal differences that require further study (43,44) (Tables 4—6). As already mentioned, cutaneous melanoma is a disease of white adults. Patients are most commonly diagnosed with melanoma in the 4th through 7th decades. Men and women are equally affected.
