Chitosan Biopolymer-Silica Hybrid Aerogels

  • Chapter
Natural Fibers, Plastics and Composites

Abstract

Aerogels containing biopolymers or bioderived polymers and silica are discussed. The preparation and characterization of chitosan-silica aerogels, both with and without metal ions, are presented. Reactions of these materials to form modified aerogels and new hybrid phases also are described.
