Abstract
Genetic Programming (GP) is a young art that is just beginning to make its way into applications programming in a serious way. The dynamics of the GP process is poorly understood with many serious questions remaining. People applying GP to real-world problems have relied more on intuition than theory, experience more than mathematics. To reach the next stage in its development, GP theory and practice must both advance. Theory must inform practice and practice must test theory.
