Development of a Recombinant FIMCH Vaccine for Urinary Tract Infections

  • Chapter
Bladder Disease, Part A

Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTI) comprise an important group of clinical syndromes that are classified as either uncomplicated or complicated, according to their presentation or response to therapy and the presence of underlying risk factors. UTI can be further divided into relatively distinct clinical entities that include acute uncomplicated UTI in women, acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis, complicated UTI and UTI in men, asymptomatic bacteruria, and recurrent UTI. This chapter will focus primarily on the syndrome of uncomplicated UTI in women, which makes up by far the largest single category of UTI seen by physicians in practice.
