Abstract

In this chapter, we discuss why multi-channel sound is important for telecommunication and for what kind of applications. In hands-free systems, multi-channel acoustic echo cancelers are absolutely necessary for full duplex communication. We explain the fundamental difference with the mono-hannel case and study the nonuniqueness problem. We also give a general framework for multi-channel time-domain adaptive algorithms, since they are the heart of any echo canceler.
