Abstract

The enormous growth of image archives has significantly increased the demand for research efforts aimed at efficiently finding similar images within a large image database (e.g., [7, 19]). One popular strategy of searching for images within an image database is called Query By Example (QBE), in which the query is expressed as an image template or a sketch thereof, and is commonly used to pose queries in most ContentBased Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems, for instance, IBM’s QBIC [12], Virage’s VIR [28], WebSEEk [22] and SIMPLIcity [30].
