Abstract

Integrated circuits are evolving into integrated systems. An integrated system may include: microprocessors, firmware, digital signal processors, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion, sensors, as well as the external system. Today’s 1C designers are faced with the challenge of obtaining knowledge in the areas of system and 1C design, as well as having the design automation knowledge needed to compete large designs. Analog behavioral modeling is one aspect of design automation that will assist designers with system-level issues. The benefits of simulation can be gained both at the component level and at the system-level (i.e. simulating the entire system together hierarchically). At the system-level, designers can: explore architectural and topological trade-offs, optimize the individual components for the best system performance, and understand customer requirements (i.e. think like the customer).
