Abstract

The ability of bone to withstand fracture, or strength, can be affected in normal subjects by exercise, by the environment e.g. in space flight or by the onset of disease, e.g. osteoporosis. The established method for assessing changes in bone properties is gamma- or X-ray densitometry, which measures the quantity of bone mineral.
