Abstract
In this chapter, attentional disturbances resulting from damage to brain systems that govern sensory selection are discussed. Hemi-inattention and neglect syndromes are perhaps the most intriguing disorders of attention seen by clinical neuropsychologists. We begin with a discussion of these syndromes and continue with a more general consideration of temporal and parietal lobe influences on attention. The hemispheric asymmetries of attention are then considered. We conclude with a brief review of the role of the thalamus as an informational gateway in the control of attention.
