Observing Plans and Techniques

Abstarct

Having a plan or an idea as to what you wish to observe can save you a lot of time fiddling around in the dark. By looking at a star chart or computer software one can devise one’s own observing program for an evening’s viewing. Alternatively, there are a number of books available that contain suggested sky tours and interesting observing programs. Having such a plan can save you a lot of time on the night. It can be very frustrating, having set up for a night’s viewing, to have spent half an hour deciding what to look at, only to look up and see the clouds roll in!
