Challenging Cases in Pulmonology

Abstract

Cystic fibrosis is a multisystem disease that occurs due to a dysfunctional anion channel in epithelial cells. In the lungs, this leads to a vicious cycle of airway obstruction, infection, and inflammation that leads to progressive respiratory decline and death. Here, we present two challenging cases of patients with progressive respiratory decline associated with failure to respond to standard treatment for a pulmonary exacerbation.
