Abstract

Since the publication of the first edition of this book, geriatric surgery has achieved recognition of its professional independence. Like an adolescent youngster or an equivalent recently liberated nation, it now faces a number of policy decisions as it matures and seeks stability. This invited commentary is therefore for the founding mothers and fathers of Surgical Geriacistan. It comes from a veteran of similar wars of independence of Thoracic, Pediatric, and Vascular Surgcalistan, and many years ago as an invited outside founding father of Family Practistan.
