Abstract

Probability has a colorful history beginning with the throwing of bones, sticks, and dice. Progress was in fits and starts because several examples led to paradoxes. Combinations were confused with permutations, means were confused with probabilities, infinite moments were rejected, and measures were ambiguous. Several of these pitfalls and paradoxes are reviewed.
