Essentials of Anatomic Pathology

Abstract

This chapter is intended to serve as a concise review of esophagus and stomach pathology. The chapter is organized to cover most of the important congenital, nonneoplastic, inflammatory, metaplastic, and neoplastic facets of esophageal and gastric surgical pathology. There is a particular focus on everyday sign out. Tumors are classified according to the WHO classification, and when appropriate, pertinent differential diagnostic considerations and immunohistochemical characteristics are listed. Eleven tables are included and cited in the text for easy reference. Over 50 color images are included and noted in the text. The suggested reading section contains many of the seminal papers relating to esophagus and stomach pathology and serves as a useful guide for further learning.
