Abstract
Although percutaneous interventions due to their inherent nature of being minimally invasive have lower infection rates than “open” procedures, proper sterile technique should be followed at all times as an infection of the dialysis access is potentially devastating for a dialysis dependent patient. Patients with dialysis grafts are more prone to infection than dialysis fistulas. However, the risk is minimized with proper sterile technique and prophylactic antibiotics are not necessary.
