Abstract

Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness have been well documented in Behçet’s syndrome. Lipid peroxidation abnormalities also suggest a proatherogenic state. However, studies investigating carotid atherosclerosis and coronary calcification fail to show increased atherosclerosis. Similarly, a long-term outcome survey and cross-sectional clinical studies suggest that the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and its associated mortality are not increased in BS.
