Abstract
GRIDCC was a project funded by the European Commission with the goal to extend the grid by integrating instruments and sensors with traditional computing and storage resources. This chapter describes how the GRIDCC’s instrument element concepts have been implemented to support the challenging requirements of the DORII project and of a usable remote instrumentation infrastructure. The new Instrument Element has been designed in order to be easy to use for both the application engineers and the scientists who are the final users of both the instruments and the grid infrastructure.
