Abstract
A well-defined, benign neoplasm believed to arise from schwann cells, also known as neurilemmocytes, thus the alternate name neurilemmoma. Schwannomas are typically seen in adults between the fourth and the sixth decades, and are extremely rare in children. In a large referral center, only 0.7% of all schwannomas occurred in children during a 10-year period. Pediatric schwannomas often occur in the setting of NF2.
