Part of the book series: Astronomer's Pocket Field Guide ((ASTROPOC))

Abstract

Spectroscopy has given us more information about stars than any other branch of Astronomy. Traditionally the domain of professional astronomers, it was an area of astronomy that very few amateurs would get involved in. Complicated texts and mathematics soon puts people off, and they lose interest in a subject that was always thought to be academically and technically difficult. This book demonstrates that this is not the case on a basic understanding level. Useful results can be obtained with relatively modest equipment.
