Radiological Imaging in the Management of Pediatric Pain

Handbook of Pediatric Chronic Pain

Abstract

Imaging plays a part in the workup and management of a large range of conditions in children and adults (Tables 14.1 and 14.2). A complete discussion of imaging as it relates to all conditions that cause chronic pain in children is beyond the scope of this chapter. Thus, we limit our discussion to a group of relatively common conditions, including complex regional pain syndrome, low back pain, headache, and cancer pain, with discussion of image-guided interventions when appropriate. We also briefly discuss basic interpretation of spine magnetic resonance imaging.
