Abstract

The semantic organization and description of Web services is an important requirement for enabling their automatic selection and composition in service-oriented environments (SOEs). A plethora ofWeb services are expected to compete in offering similar functionalities in SOEs, or the new service Web in general [153]. The continuously changing and large number of Web services, with service providers potentially located in different parts of the world calls for techniques to organizeWeb services in a manner that can be efficiently understood and outsourced. In this chapter, we present a semantics-centered framework for organizing and describing Web services. We introduce the concept of community to cater for an ontological organization and description of Web services. We develop an ontology, called community ontology, that serves as a template for describing communities.
