Abstract
In this chapter we are going to introduce you to sockets in PHP. At first, sockets may sound like the realm of “hard-core” developers, but they are fairly easy to use once you get the hang of them. Sockets allow you to connect and communicate with servers directly. While most people associate them with chat applications, there are many more uses to sockets that we will explore in this chapter.
