Abstract

This section of the book describes the need and role of the capacity management database. The capacity database forms the repository of all capacity-related information. The capacity plan also resides in the capacity database. The concept of a managed object is introduced here for cloud providers. Managed objects are the representation of technical objects that contribute to delivering cloud services. This chapter also explains detailed input/output aspects of the capacity management process with regard to other IT service management processes, CMDB, monitoring systems, and other data center databases. The definition and type of data that must reside in capacity databases is also discussed. Finally, this chapter emphasizes capacity database and CMDB integration.
