Abstract
Not many things are more vexing to a DBA than experiencing problems when backing up and recovering a mission-critical database. The good news is that RMAN is a tried-and-true backup and recovery tool. RMAN has been available since version 8.0. Many companies routinely use RMAN as their backup and recovery (B&R) solution. As a result, vast sources of RMAN information are available (web sites, white papers, presentations, blogs, forums, user groups, and so on). This means you can usually find somebody who has already encountered the problem you’re facing.
