Abstract

In this chapter, I show you how to implement three of the contracts that allow Windows apps to integrate file-related functionality into Windows. I show you how to register an app to handle particular types of file with the file activation contract and how to provide storage services to other apps using the save picker and open picker contracts. Implementing these contracts, like all contracts, is optional—but if your app works with files in any way, you should look at them carefully to see if they offer integration that would make using your app simpler and easier for the user.
