Abstract
The applications in the Internet application layer are the face of the cloud. When an enterprise user records a sales contact in a SaaS customer relations management application, they use a browser. The browser interacts through the Web with a back-end application in a cloud. In Chapter 9, I talked about how applications can make use of Internet and network protocols to establish remote communications between applications. In this chapter, the focus is on how applications are structured to make use of the Internet and the infrastructure that makes this possible.
